Chelsea in Cahill talks

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed they are in talks with Chelsea over the transfer of Gary Cahill.

Chelsea are in need of further cover in central defence after Alex submitted a transfer request, and Andre Villas-Boas - who had earlier dismissed reports of the Blues' interest - confirmed the club were monitoring his situation.

England defender Cahill, who turned 26 this month, is out of contract at the end of the season and Bolton are now looking to cash in during the January window.

"Regarding Gary Cahill, there has been dialogue between ourselves and Chelsea," Bolton said on their Twitter page. "He is a top player and is fully focused on Bolton."

Cahill is expected to feature for Bolton against Newcastle and Wolves on Boxing Day and New Year's Eve respectively.
