Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has ruled out the possibility that the club will make January bids for Bolton defender Gary Cahill or Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric.
Chelsea were reported to have put in several offers for Modric in the summer, with the Croatian expressing his desire to move to Stamford Bridge. However, the move did not materialise as Spurs were adamant that they were not going to let one of their stars depart ahead of the new season.
The Blues were also linked with a bid for England international Cahill (whose contract runs out at the end of the season) and reports recently suggested he could replace exit-bound Alex. But Villas-Boas insists that his side are happy with what they have and will not be looking at the duo again.
"He's [Cahill] a fantastic player because he plays for the English national team, a central defender of high qualities," Villas-Boas told Sky Sports. "He had a fantastic year last season for club and country. But he is not a player that we are considering."
The Portuguese also ruled out returning for playmaker Modric, saying: "We have [Michael] Essien returning and I think we have left that one for sure.''
Chelsea also saw a move for full-back Alvaro Pereira - who Villas-Boas managed at Porto - rejected, but when asked about signing the Uruguayan, Villas-Boas was equally evasive.
"I don't think so based on prices and because we are not looking,'' he said. ''We are pretty satisfied with what we've got."
